NLP stands for Neuro-Linguistic-Programming.
Neuro refers to the way the brain organizes and stores sensory
data. Linguistic refers to the code or label put on that data. And
Programming is the resultant process that occurs in relation to
the label once it is activated in present experience. What this
means is that the brain responds to sensory information in certain
recognizable patterns resulting in our behaviors, attitudes,
beliefs, self-images, etc. When our responses no longer serve us
in the most optimum way then we tend to desire some kind of
change. This type of change is what NLP addresses.
How did NLP First Come
About?
NLP was created by Richard Bandler
while he was still a university student, he had discovered that he
could actually reproduce healing patterns used by Fritz Perls, the
creator of Gestalt therapy, after watching him on video. Later he
did the same thing with a prominent family therapist named
Virginia Satir. This phenomenon intrigued him so much that
he brought it up with his professor John Grinder. Together they
unraveled the language patterns used by these master healers that
they used to effect such powerful methods of problem resolution.
They further studied Milton Erickson, a pioneer in the use of
Hypnosis, in the therapeutic setting. John Grinder was a
Linguistics professor and Richard Bandler was a student in
mathematics and computer science. Hence through their
combined efforts studying these famous healers NLP was born.
What can NLP be used for?
There are three basic areas of
application for NLP. First is for changing unwanted patterns or
habits such as addictions, phobias, and other types of
psycho-somatic conditions. The second is for taking skills that
one already has and increasing the level of competence in a very
short period of time. The third is for those involved with the
spiritual path and wishing to deepen their connection with various
qualities such as truth, compassion, devotion, surrender,
confidence, liberation, etc. The unique thing about NLP is that
although it works just like Hypnosis to bring about the desired
result quickly and effortlessly it does so while the client is
awake and with their eyes open. This is the magic of NLP that it
can be done while one is wide awake and fully engaged in the
process. In fact, instead of putting one in an unconscious
state it assists one in entering a heightened state of awareness.
And it is while in this state that one is assisted in bringing
resources to the desired areas of focus. And, it is this process
of empowering areas of need in one's life that makes NLP such a
powerful tool of transformation, growth, and development in an
ever expanding number of fields of application. Another
interesting point about this work is that many times positive
changes will come about in areas of one's life not directly dealt
with in the session. NLP can be used for quick and rapid
changes in a wide variety of applications as well as undertaken
for a period of time to facilitate deeper and more wide ranging
transformation.
Why NLP Works...
NLP works because it's focus is on
finding solutions as opposed to delving into problems.
And it firmly supports that statement that everybody already has
what they need to solve all their problems they just might need a
little help getting there.
With the right tools such as NLP and what is has to offer getting
there can be quite an enjoyable experience...
Who can benefit from NLP
Hypnosis?

change in their own life.
